Description

This inner lid plug uses a hard/soft construction: a rigid plastic insert provides shape and support while the silicone exterior provides the compliant contact surface. The result is a single component that can locate inside a tumbler lid while also providing sealing, cushioning and anti-rattle functions.

Multiple silicone ribs can be molded around the plug to control how it engages the surrounding lid housing. Rib quantity, spacing and compression are therefore key engineering variables, especially when the same closure must assemble consistently across production tolerances.

Rigid Core + Flexible Sealing Ribs

  • Combines a rigid plastic insert with a silicone outer layer.
  • Intended for insulated tumbler lids, thermal bottle caps and travel mug closures.
  • Multiple sealing ribs can be customized for contact and retention.
  • The source design supports OEM/ODM development from drawings, samples or complete lid assemblies.
  • The integrated structure can provide support, sealing, cushioning and fit stability.

Typical Tumbler Applications

  • Insulated tumbler lids
  • Vacuum bottle caps
  • Thermal flask closures
  • Travel mug lids
  • Custom beverage closure assemblies

What to Define Before Tooling

For a reliable quotation and mold review, the silicone part should be specified together with the mating lid or cup geometry. The most useful project inputs are:

  • Core material and dimensions
  • Silicone overmold thickness
  • Rib number, spacing and compression
  • Bonding/retention strategy
  • Assembly tolerance and leak test

RFQ and Sample Review

For lid assemblies, a complete CAD stack-up is preferred because the silicone part interacts with rigid components, tolerances and moving mechanisms. Sample approval should be performed on the assembled lid.
